Great implementation plan! I loved the mixed ability study groups, the built in incentives, and the way you are allowing students ownership over their wikis and groups. It sounds like you have all the bases covered and are ready to unpack this in the fall, when school starts. Looking forward to reading the final paper=8-)
Jess, I think you have done a very nice job of planning out this project and also preparing for potential road-bumps. Choosing mixed ability groups for strategic student placement as opposed to letting students pick their own groups is a very good idea, both for individuals and classroom culture. In addition, I think your ideas for building participation points and also allowing for group feedback on participation are good measures to encourage all students to participate. Finally, I also think your insight into student ownership of the wiki is very true—the more students can make the site “their own,” the more invested they will become in the final products. Using pictures would be a great idea, and I believe this is probably already covered in the school AUP. I remember I had to check agreements to see what pictures I could post in a classroom video I made last year and all of the information was already available in the office. However, you could also include this as a part of an individual classroom AUP if you decide to make one.
Good job, Jess. First, you did a nice job with creating your podcast....speaking slowly and clearly. You've done a nice job with thinking through the whole implementation process. Integrating peer support with using technology is a good idea. I like that you have thought this through and have forecasted some of the resistance you might receive from your middle school students. Assigning motivating points is good way to form cohesiveness between the groups. Nicely done. Julie :)
